Before Pouring Your Next Drink, Make Sure You’re Prepared For ‘Margarita Burn’

Dermatologists are sharing some important tips to remember.

There are many reasons to drink margaritas responsibly — but one of them has nothing to do with the liquor in each drink. Instead, medical professionals are advising people to be aware of the potential risks associated with handling too much lime before going out in the sun.

One woman’s cautionary tale

Social media influencer Isabel Tan recalled finding a dark spot on the skin around her mouth after a night of drinking margaritas recently. After initially dismissing it as nothing serious, it began to darken and become flaky, at which point she decided to visit a dermatologist.

The doctor asked what she had to drink and quickly arrived at the diagnosis of phytophotodermatitis, which is a condition resulting from the combined impact of lime juice and sunlight.

“The lime wedge on the rim of the cup must have been rubbing against my lips,” Tan explained.

40+ Everyday Items With Hidden Features You Didn’t Know The Purpose Of, such as:

Last week I was out at the back of our property enjoying a beautiful day listening to the birds singing and chirping in the background. In the far off distance, I heard a murder [flock] of crows suddenly cawing when something disturbed them.
This reminded me of an article I had read years ago [sorry, but I don’t have the reference] about a massive kill of crows near a busy highway. Experts were perplexed because crows will station lookouts to warn the others of approaching danger so that they could fly away to safety when the alarm is sounded.
Upon closer examination, they indeed discovered that the crows had each died suddenly of blunt force trauma. Furthermore, they discovered microscopic particles of paint which they then analyzed using a mass spectrometer and discovered that almost all the crows had died from impacts with large trucks. This further confused the experts because they thought a small speeding and almost quiet car would be harder for the lookout crows to spot than the relatively few large lumbering and noisy trucks traveling down the highway.
The puzzle was solved when an avian linguist [one who studies bird vocalization including bird calls and bird songs] became involved. It seemed that there was a shortcoming with the crow’s extremely limited vocabulary. Although a crow could easily call out “CAW” to warn the others of approaching danger, there was no way a crow could vocalize the word “truck”.

SAN JOSE LOCAL NEWS. SNOW? IN SAN JOSE? AND MORE RAIN.

Heavy snowfall is too much for a Clovis Unified camp gymSONORA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The massive amounts of continuing snowfall proved to be too much for an area school gymnasium.

In a Facebook post, officials from Clovis Unified’s Sierra Outdoor School confirm the camp’s gym collapsed Thursday night from the inclement weather.

Since 1970, thousands of elementary students have gathered and played games and visited the building that is part of the district’s Sonora campus that conducts science camps for the school’s sixth graders as well as students from around the state, according to officials.

Camp had been canceled all week due to the extraordinary snowfall and no students were present when the collapse occurred, school officials say. FULL STORY HERE

Sonora, CA — Most of the roads that were closed on Saturday due to flooding have reopened, according the CHP.

There are still some side streets, including around downtown Sonora, which remain closed. Road crews are out clearing drains again today ahead of additional rain projected throughout this week.

There is still a hard closure of Highway 120 from Hardin Flat Road to South Fork Tuolumne Bridge due to a road washout, according to Caltrans.

‘We will sue you’: VTA strong-arming San Jose property owners to sell

Henry Nguyen, owner of Vietnam Printing, is worried how work on a future BART station in downtown San Jose will affect his business.

As the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority prepares to bring BART through downtown San Jose, some property owners claim the agency is refusing to negotiate terms.

The second phase of the BART extension to San Jose brings the Bay Area rail line through downtown along Santa Clara Street, a stretch that will displace a number of downtown businesses and residents to make way for ventilation systems and an emergency exit from the BART tunnel.

This portion of the project, slated to be completed by 2030, requires the agency to negotiate with property owners to sell their land, relocate or agree to their conditions while trying to remain in business. If the owners refuse, the agency could take the properties through a process known as eminent domain, in which government entities force owners to sell their properties when they’re needed for public projects.
“If anything happens to the business where the business closes or takes slower to get back on its feet, it’ll take months or years to get to who’s responsible for it,” Nguyen told San José Spotlight. “Then we will be starving.” SEE FULL STORY HERE

Santa Clara County concealed weapons applications skyrocketThe Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office has received hundreds of applications for concealed carry weapons permits since a June 2022 Supreme Court ruling.

A Supreme Court ruling last summer changed two words, starting a chain reaction across the nation for who can obtain a concealed carry weapons permit. In Santa Clara County, it means more residents will be able to carry concealed weapons on the streets.

The June 23, 2022 ruling struck down previous regulations that gave the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and other local authorities the ability to deny gun permits if applicants didn’t have “good cause” to carry a firearm. With that language gone, the sheriff’s office has seen a flood of applications for concealed carry weapons permits, which allow individuals to carry firearms in public places.

Spokesperson Sgt. Michael Low said the sheriff’s office received 32 concealed carry weapons applications from Jan. 1 to May 31 last year. That number jumped dramatically from June through the end of 2022 after the court ruling, with 378 applications. In 2021, the office only received 32 applications the entire year. The department launched an online application portal in February and within a month received hundreds of requests.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Bob Jonsen said he anticipated the increase. Prior to the ruling, the county and California at large generally took a “may issue” approach to approving permits, he said. Now, the county is more in line with a “shall issue” approach, he said.

“It’s a natural progression for people to say, ‘Hey, why not?’ and throw in an application,” Jonsen told San José Spotlight. “It is what it is now, and that will make it a little more challenging to deny (permits) because that ‘good cause’ requirement is no longer in place.”

Jonsen said the county implemented alternatives to replace the previous “good cause” measure, including a required psychological exam through a psychologist used by the sheriff’s office and more gun training hours. He said current county policy also prohibits guns in places that primarily sell alcohol. Concealed weapons are also not allowed in schools, airports, courthouses and federal buildings. Applicants need to go through a criminal background check and interview with the sheriff’s office, according to the county sheriff’s website.

SMALL TOWN MUSK: Report Says Elon Musk Planning to Build His Own Town in Texas
play-sharp-fill

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, world’s richest man Elon Musk may be planning to build a town in Texax, just outside Austin next to his Boring and SpaceX facilities.

From The Wall Street Journal:

In meetings with landowners and real-estate agents, Mr. Musk and employees of his companies have described his vision as a sort of Texas utopia along the Colorado River, where his employees could live and work.

Executives at the Boring Co., Mr. Musk’s tunnel operation, have discussed and researched incorporating the town in Bastrop County, about 35 miles from Austin, which would allow Mr. Musk to set some regulations in his own municipality and expedite his plans, according to people familiar with Mr. Musk’s projects.

The planned town is adjacent to Boring and SpaceX facilities now under construction. The site already includes a group of modular homes, a pool, an outdoor sports area and a gym, according to Facebook photos and people familiar with the town. Signs hanging from poles read “welcome, snailbrook, tx, est. 2021.”

Snailbrook is a reference to Boring’s mascot. When Mr. Musk started the tunneling venture, he challenged employees to build boring machines that move “faster than a snail.”

Some Boring employees, including Steve Davis, the company’s president and a top lieutenant to Mr. Musk, have at times described even bigger plans, including creating an entire city, according to some of those people and text messages viewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The Origins Of 16 Everyday English Phrases That Made Us Say ‘Oh!’

Let The Cat Out Of The Bag

Letting the cat out of the bag – giving away a secret – is a bad thing. So was one of the activities that may have given the English language this phrase. While the idiom wasn’t written down until the mid-18th century, it may be based in the medieval practice of selling livestock.

When vendors would sell pigs, they’d put a cat into the bag – adding to the weight of their product. As a result, the customer would overpay, but not realize it until the cat was let out of the bag.

Another theory gives the phrase nautical origins, related to the phrase “cat got your tongue.” As punishment, sailors were flogged with a “cat o’ nine tails,” whose pain rendered them speechless. If the whip – or “cat” – was kept in a bag, that could be related to the phrase.

Steal Someone’s Thunder

The phrase “stealing thunder” is attributed to the plight of playwright John Dennis. When Dennis’s play, Appius and Virginia, opened in 1704, it featured the use of a thunder machine (the specifics of it are unclear).

The play failed, but when a production of Macbeth had a comparable device soon after, Dennis reportedly said the play had stolen his thunderMacbeth apparently used it more effectively and successfully.

Keanu Reeves inspires the name of a new fungus-killing compound

Scientists in Germany named a new bacterial compound after Keanu Reeves because it can reportedly “kill so efficiently,” just like how “[Reeves], too, is extremely deadly in his roles.”

“Keanumycins” are fungicides (fungus-killing compounds) discovered by researchers at the the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology in Jena, Germany. Produced by soil bacteria, the fungicides were found to protect both humans and plants from fungal infection, meaning they “could have applications in the agriculture and health care industries,” per HuffPost.

“The keanumycins create holes in the surface of the pathogen and it ‘bleeds’ to death,” said Sebastian Götze, a Leibniz Institute scientist and the study’s lead author, via The New York Times. “Like Keanu Reeves in his many roles as a proficient killer, the newly discovered molecules can also very efficiently, at low concentrations, kill different human fungal pathogens, by riddling them with holes.”

Reeves himself was asked for his reaction to the fungal tribute during a recent promotional Reddit AMA ahead of the release of his new film, “John Wick: Chapter 4.”

“They should’ve called it John Wick,” Reeves joked. “But that’s pretty cool…and surreal for me. But thanks, scientist people! Good luck, and thank you for helping us.”

Putin and Wagner group reach ‘boiling point’ in Bakhmut rivalry

Tensions between the Russian ministry of defence and the rebel Wagner group have likely reached a “boiling point” in their rivalry over Bakhmut, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has said.

The city in Donetsk Oblast, which has been the site of bloody contention for several weeks, serves as a symbolic stepping stone for Moscow to push forward in its invasion.

According to ISW analysis, the Russian MoD is trying to “deliberately expend both elite and convict Wagner forces in Bakhmut in an effort to weaken [Yevgeny] Prigozhin and derail his ambitions for greater influence in the Kremlin”.

The analysis continued: “The Russian MoD is currently prioritising eliminating Wagner on the battlefields in Bakhmut, which is likely slowing down the rate of advance in the area.” Read More HERE

EXCLUSIVE: Experts warn China’s massive food hoarding will lead to food shortages in America

China is hoarding a massive amount of food, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirms China will soon have 69% of the globe’s corn reserves, 60% of its rice and 51% of its wheat.

What does this mean for Americans like you and me?

2 words: food shortages

“Control the food, control the people.”

Right now, there are 38 million Americans struggling with food insecurity, and experts say more grocery hoarding may come as disruptions push America’s food supply “near its breaking point.”

John Boyd Jr, a 4th-generation American farmer, warns:

“Food shortage is coming.”

As a result of this crisis, survival food is more important than ever.

And if you don’t take action or if you stockpile the wrong foods, you could be setting your family up to go hungry in a time of crisis.

It sounds harsh, but the truth is too many people with good intentions are making critical mistakes with their survival food.

Mistakes like…

  • Getting MREs with a 5-year shelf life – depending on where you purchase them from they could be near expired…
  • Getting gross survival foods that are tough to stomach and so high in salt, MSG and preservatives you could clog your arteries and get yourself sick…
  • Or simply getting the wrong foods and leaving a critical hole in your meal plan, which means you risk becoming malnourished…

Well, no need to worry anymore…

Obviously, waiting on the government for a handout in a disaster just isn’t an option. And we were completely turned off by the crazy high cost of survival food sold by some companies.

That’s why I ordered and got my very own stockpile of the best-selling 4Patriots Survival Food Kits.

Xi Vows to Strengthen Military, Reunify Taiwan in Speech Opening Third Term

March 13 (UPI) — In a defiant speech to open his third term, Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to strengthen his military and take steps toward “reunification” with Taiwan after decades of tensions with the United States over the sovereignty of the small island.

Xi gave the address Monday during the closing ceremony of the National People’s Congress as he said that China must “build the People’s Liberation Army into a great wall of steel that effectively safeguards national sovereignty, security, and development interests.”

“China should work to achieve greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology, promote industrial transformation,” he said, outlining his plans after being re-elected to a third five-year term which makes him China’s longest-serving ruler.

Xi’s speech also lashed out at “bullying foreign powers” that were working to stifle the Chinese economy and exert more influence throughout Asia.

“The Chinese people have become the masters of their own destiny,” he said, referring to “reunifying” with Taiwan. “The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has entered an irreversible historical process.” READ FULL STORY HERE

If you missed Life, Liberty and Levin last night his opening monologue was particularly disturbing…
Watch This is a scandal nobody is talking about here:

A shocking Antifa arrest exposed one far-left fake organization
People are finally being forced to recognize Antifa as a terrorist group.

Democrats have allowed the left-wing domestic terrorists to operate with near-impunity for years.

And a shocking Antifa arrest exposed one far-left fake organization.

Democrats and their media allies have bent over backwards not to talk about the left-wing domestic terror organization, Antifa.

President Joe Biden has claimed Antifa was merely an “idea,” while Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said the group was nothing more than a “myth.”

But ideas and myths don’t firebomb courthouses – left-wing domestic terrorists do.

Recently, Antifa goons have been waging war against law enforcement in Georgia regarding the construction of a new police training facility where one of the left-wing groups’ so-called “autonomous zones” had been constructed.

One of the Antifa members dwelling in the illegal autonomous zone was killed by police officers after he opened fire on them, and ever since, the domestic terrorist organization has been attempting to avenge their comrade’s death.

And one of the Antifa members arrested in the attacks on Georgia police officers was an employee of the state’s Bureau of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) named Thomas Webb Jurgens.

Decades ago, the SPLC did good work suing the Ku Klux Klan out of business in the South.

But for the past couple of decades, the SPLC has been reduced to a smear machine for the Left.

In exchange for smearing Republicans as hatemongers, SPLC leadership enjoys a massive slush – which currently amounts to $731.9 million – thanks to the donations of left-wing millionaires and billionaires.

It pays to slander conservatives.

Some of the targets of the SPLC have been people like Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former Muslim who underwent female genital mutilation in Somalia, and Maajid Nawaz, a practicing Muslim who combats Islamic radicalization.

Ali and Nawaz were smeared by the SPLC as anti-Muslim hate preachers.

Nawaz sued the organization, and won a large settlement.

Jurgens’s arrest shows just how far down the extreme left-wing rabbit hole the SPLC has fallen.

Left-wing domestic terrorists are perfectly at home within the group.

Also, it’s clear that the SPLC has a blind spot for left-wing terror groups.

“Antifa, short for anti-fascist, is a broad, community-based movement composed of individuals organizing against racial and economic injustice,” The SPLC’s Hatewatch blog explained. “Those who identify with the label represent a large spectrum of the political left. The Trump administration frequently uses the term to describe any group or individual that demonstrates in opposition to its policies. Far-right extremists use similar tactics.”

Look at the soft language the SPLC uses to describe a terror group that has killed, beaten, firebombed, vandalized, and terrorized for years.

  • Some volunteer fighters in Ukraine are considerably older than the average age of a typical soldier.
  • 63-year-old Leonid Onyschenko, for example, is fighting for Ukraine near the city of Bakhmut.
  • Ukraine is one of the “oldest” countries in the world, according to Amnesty International.

In Ukraine’s bloody battles, there are retirees fighting side-by-side with their younger comrades.

While the classic image of a soldier in battle evokes a fit young person with a chiseled jawline, the diverse volunteer fighters in Ukraine defy this expectation. As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine enters its second year, some soldiers putting their lives on the line for their country are graying, grandparents, and well-past retirement age.

Leonid Onyshchenko, 63, once a nuclear physicist, is now fighting the Russian military near the city of Bakhmut, according to a social media post by the Ukraine Territorial Defense Forces last week.

The Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) — a volunteer military reserve — said that Onyshchenko had been serving the country for nine years since Russia’s invasion and illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. The post includes a photo that appears to show the physicist-turned-fighter jumping down from an armored vehicle in military attire.

“Now we are completing what our grandfathers started 100 years ago. When it becomes difficult, I always tell the boys what kind of fighters they were,” Onyshchenko said.

Onyshchenko added he is ready to fight “regardless of age, regardless of anything. Until we win, we will not lay down our arms,” according to the Facebook post.

Hundreds of cars confiscated from drunk drivers to be supplied to Ukraine’s military and hospitals. Earlier this week, eight cars were taken on the back of a trailer from an impound lot in Latvia to be transported to “where they are most needed,” Latvia’s State Revenue Service. The government tasked the transport of the seized cars to the Agendum group — a Latvian NGO that delivers vehicles to Ukraine — who will donate them to the Ukrainian military and hospitals.

“No one expected that people are drunk-driving so many vehicles, they can’t sell them as fast as people are drinking. So that’s why I came with the idea — send them to Ukraine,” Poznaks said.

Poznaks also tweeted a picture of the cars being transported and said, “The journey from our garage to Ukraine begins today. One car will redeem not only alcohol but also ideological karma.”

The press make fools of themselves over Tucker Carlson’s January 6 videos

It is quite possible that someday one might find [buying and selling] so common and vulgar that, along with all party-literature and journalism, one would classify it as “prostitution of the spirit.”

–Friedrich Nietzsche, Die Fröliche Wissenschaft (§ 31)

Since Tucker Carlson has just released unseen actual footage of the January 6 riot at the Capitol that the January 6 Committee did not bother to look at and that appears to contradict the official bipartisan swamp storyline, a plethora of what now passes for “journalists” have materialized to smear Carlson. They join what masquerades as our elected “representatives” on both sides of the aisle, including comrades Romney and McConnell, who are doing the same.

Carlson made very specific allegations based on the security videos taken at the Capitol that day, that the videos shows that “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley did not lead the mob into the Capitol as many have claimed, that he was peaceful, that Capitol police officers even opened doors for him, that he led a prayer thanking the Capitol police, that Officer Brian Sicknick was alive 30 minutes after he was allegedly killed by the pro-Trump mob, etc.

Carlson called for lawbreakers on that day to be punished.  Carlson also pointed out that several members of the bipartisan swamp continue to make verifiably false statements that five Capitol police officers were killed by the mob that day. Several died several days later of natural causes; they were not killed by Trump supporters. The only person killed that day was an unarmed woman Ashli Babbitt who was shot by a Capitol policeman.

Tucker’s unwelcome infusion of evidence into the elitist swamp storyline, crafted by an ABC producer hired by the January 6 Committee to dazzle the serfs, did not make the Democrat-Media Theatre Department happy.

They could have produced videos showing Jacob Chansley behaving violently or that the person Carlson claimed to be Brian Sicknick alive 30 minutes after he was supposed to be killed by the mob is a case of mistaken identity.

Since, however, they cannot refute Carlson’s claims by citing actual evidence, which actually requires one to know something and do real work, they began to do what they standardly do, namely to frame the issue by smearing Carlson so that people will not even want to view the newly released videos.

One of the more curious articles to smear Carlson is an old recycled 2021 article by Maroosha Muzaffar of The Independent titled: “Tucker Carlson admits he lies on his show:  ‘I really try not to [but] I certainly do.”  Unfortunately, Maroosha does not appear able to read his own article.  After admitting that “I lie if I’m really cornered …” Carlson explicitly states, as Maroosha himself quotes him, that “I [Tucker] try never to lie on TV.”

When Carlson admits that he sometimes lies he is, presumably, referring to the mundane fact that many of us lie in certain circumstances, e.g., to one’s sister-in-law, “Hazel, I really love your Spam-blood-pudding sandwiches.”  It would not be surprising if Mother Teresa sometimes told these kinds of lies because they are just ways of not hurting someone’s feelings, not morally blameworthy in any way.  However, Maroosha has a word, “lie,” that can be exploited for his political agenda.  Tucker’s mistake, in admitting that he sometimes lies, is to try to be honest with dishonest people who will literally use anything, even an admission of “lies” about someone’s gag-inducing Spam-blood-pudding sandwiches, as props for their political agenda.

Similarly, Ed Mazza of the Huffington Post purports to expose Carlson’s Most Unsettling TV Habit, his alleged “cackle.”  Admittedly, Tucker does have an odd laugh but it is certainly not a Kamala-class cackle.  Carlson recently had a Kamala-cackle impersonator on his show so it is very important to the Left to accuse him of exactly what Kamala actually does.  “Tu quoque!”  Unfortunately, Carlson’s laugh has nothing whatsoever to do with the newly released January 6 footage.  Bringing it up serves only two purposes, first, to ridicule Carlson with some negativity, however minor, and, second, to divert from the fact that Carlson’s new videos expose some apparent falsehoods in the bipartisan establishment’s claims about the January 6 Capitol riot.

Another curious article recycled to distract from the Carlson’s new Capitol videos is a 2003 David Moye Huffington Post article in which Carlson’s apparent suggestion that Bill O’Reilly is a fake is actually a description of himself.

Another by Josephine Harvey of the Huffington Post reports that Carlson says in private texts that he hates Trump passionately (although we haven’t seen the context of the quotes yet).

Another, by Graig Graziosi of The Independent, reports that Anderson Cooper said that Tucker Carlson would have been wetting his pants if he had been at the Capitol riot.  One assumes that Anderson would have been checking this had he been there as well.

The same story is told by Graham Gremore of Queerty, using the profanity essential to make the kiddies at the ninth grade lunch table giggle, who states that “Anderson Cooper expertly shades pants-pissing Tucker Carlson over his bullsh*t January 6 report.”  Of what logical significance is “shading”?  One could go on indefinitely.   In a critical reasoning course these would be called “red herring” fallacies used to divert attention from Carlson’s new evidence.

Some, comically, accuse Carlson of “cherry-picking” Capitol-riot videos when that is precisely what was done by their beloved January 6 Committee of anti-Trump partisans.  “We can cherry-pick videos to our heart’s content but you’re not allowed to balance the record!”  How convenient!

What all of these articles have in common is that they make no serious effort whatsoever to address Carlson’s specific claims about what is shown in the newly released videos, which tells one everything one needs to know about them.  Instead, all focus on diversion, often infantile, and that is their purpose.  Such articles signal to the peasants that our elite bipartisan overlords have their storyline and are sticking with it.  New evidence is not welcome.  Their multi-millions and power to push people around depend on it.

Nietzsche’s 1882 point was that when buying and selling becomes common and vulgar then even opinions and smears will come to be bought and sold.  One can now tune in to MSNBC to watch buffoonish elitists who have negotiated massive salaries of evil capitalist dollars for themselves ridicule capitalism.  There are some professions that cannot allow shame.
